FAO believes that the high international tea price is mainly due to the fact that since 2009, the demand for black tea in the international market has been greater than the supply, and black tea is the main species of global tea production.
According to the report, in 2011, as tea prices rose, the income of tea-exporting countries increased by 2.2% over the previous year, which significantly improved rural incomes in these countries and raised the food safety of households. According to FAO, in 2010, global tea demand increased by 5.6% to 4 million tons.
Reported that the increase in global tea consumption is mainly due to the rapid increase in per capita income of some countries, especially China, India, and other emerging economies. Taking China as an example, in 2009, tea consumption increased by as much as 8.2%. In 2010, it increased by 1.4% to 1.06 million tons, ranking first in the world. Tea consumption in India in 2009 and 2010 increased by 2.4% and 1% respectively, reaching 828,890 tons in 2010.
The FAO Inter-governmental Tea Working Group believes that in recent years, the oversupply situation in the international tea market has gradually improved, supply and demand have become more balanced, and tea prices have also increased over the past 10 years.
Regarding the trend of the international tea market in the next 10 years, the FAO Inter-governmental Tea Working Group believes that global black tea production will maintain an average annual growth of 1.9%, reaching 3.28 million tons by 2021, and the price will remain at 2.75 US dollars per kilogram, slightly lower than The current price level.
At the same time, the growth of global green tea production will be significantly higher than that of black tea. The total output in 2021 will reach 2.6 million tons, of which China's green tea production will reach 2.3 million tons.
