Hydrogen safety
The biggest risk in using hydrogen is that hydrogen leaks into the laboratory environment, raising the hydrogen content of the laboratory to an explosion level. The safety advantages of gas generators can be seen by theoretical examples. The lower explosion limit (LEL) of hydrogen is 4% of the total air. Therefore, emptying two hydrogen cylinders with a volume of 50L can achieve a lower explosion limit of a small sealed laboratory with a volume of 500m3. If the hydrogen leak is very severe, the lower limit will be reached in a few minutes. Spontaneous combustion occurs when high-pressure hydrogen is rapidly released from the cylinder. Precision Hydrogen Trace Hydrogen Generator Safety Features
The Precision Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator has the following safety features to ensure safe and reliable operation:
- In order to avoid hydrogen accumulation in the device due to leakage, this generator uses a forced ventilation method. This ensures that no hydrogen/oxygen mixture is formed in the generator.
- At startup, the generator automatically checks for internal leaks and, if required, shuts itself down after the system check is over and notifies the operator via visual alerts.
- The generator can detect any hydrogen leaks inside its internal, user application facilities and gas lines. In the event of a serious leak, the generator will automatically shut down within 20 minutes.
- The hydrogen pressure in the generator can only be up to 7.5 bar (110 psi) and can be controlled in two ways:
a. Monitoring and controlling air pressure by electronic means through pressure sensors
b. If the internal pressure exceeds 7.5 bar (110 psi), the mechanical pressure switch (fail-safe) will electrically isolate the hydrogen battery. - When the generator is in an alarm state, the following occurs:
a. The battery's current is interrupted, so no hydrogen is generated to prevent dangerous situations.
b. The overpressure relief valve opens to depressurize the unit.
c. An audible alarm will sound and a visual alert related to the fault condition will be displayed. The generator is capable of detecting gas leaks inside and outside, excessive gas demand and water shortages.
Hydrogen detector accessories
A hydrogen detection unit can be purchased with the Precision Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator. The purpose of the detector is to use it in conjunction with the GC. It is recommended to place the detector above the GC exit height. The detector can be wall mounted. As shown in the figure below, the unit is connected from the “input†port on the rear of the detector to the “hydrogen detector†port on the rear of the generator (Figure 1).
The detector is powered by this connection, allowing the Precision Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator to communicate with the detector. The detector will continue to sample and if the hydrogen content is detected to be dangerous, both the detector and the Precision Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator will sound an alarm. In the unlikely event that a hydrogen leak occurs, the generator will shut down. Same Precision
The Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator can be connected to multiple detectors simultaneously (up to 4). If you need to connect multiple detectors, connect the “Output†port of the first detector to the “Input†port of the second detector, as shown below.
Automatic water injection
The Precision Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator uses an automatic watering system that detects the lowest water level through the internal sink sensor of the system generator. The sink is then refilled with water through a rear connection to an external deionized (DI) water source. The unit should be connected to a deionized water source as shown below (Figure 2). Use a pair of Tygon® tubes and hose barb fittings provided in the box for attachment. The barbs should be attached to the tube. One end of the water pipe should be connected to the water source and the other end should be connected to the “water injection†port at the rear of the Precision Hydrogen Trace hydrogen generator.
