On February 20th Garmin announced two new Vivo series wearables: the Vivoactive HR fitness watch and the Vivofit 3 activity tracking bracelet. It can be seen immediately that Garmin's design is more fashionable and unique, especially Vivofit 3. However, the new is not just a design, the two devices are more complete than before, with new features, including automatic recognition of motion types and tracking, and optical heart rate monitoring.
Vivofit 3 favors basic fitness tracking wearables that track steps, calories and distances. Its most versatile feature is automatic recognition of all movements, including swimming, cycling, running, elliptical training, and exercise intensity.
The bracelet is equipped with a small backlit screen, 50 meters waterproof, and battery life of up to one year. As for the design, there is Garmin's own Style collection, which includes a variety of monochrome textured straps, as well as a variety of bright-colored straps designed by designer Jonathan Adler.
Vivoactive HR watches are more sophisticated and close to smart watches. The new version has an optical heart rate monitor, so users no longer need to use a heart rate chest strap, and calorie tracking is more accurate. The watch also has sensors that track altitude and improved GPS capabilities. Tracking sports include running, cycling, golf, skiing/snowboarding and swimming.
Vivoactive HR deprecates the design that is more like a watch, with an integrated strap design for a more practical fitness look. However, the watch retains the original window widget feature, which can be downloaded from Garmin's Connect IQ app store.
Garmin said the Vivoactive HR watch will be available this spring for $250. Vivofit 3 is available in similar times, ranging in price from $100 to $120, depending on the strap style, and Adler designed the strap to cost $40 more.
