Currently, she does not recommend that patients with depression try LAC supplements. However, lower levels of LAC in the blood may be a "marker" for the diagnosis of more severe and difficult to treat depression. If this is confirmed, it will be possible for doctors to use LAC levels to diagnose depression.

Earlier, a small study led by Dr. Brian Brennan, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, showed that LAC can help identify people with more severe types of depression. But he also stressed that it is not yet proven that LAC supplements can help treat severe depression and that more clinical trials are needed.
