New method is expected to alleviate pain caused by chemotherapy

Medical Network May 31, US researchers said on the 29th that they found a new way to block pain from the roots, is expected to alleviate the pain caused by cancer chemotherapy.
A new study published in the American Journal of Cell Reports showed that injection of a natural protein, apolipoprotein AI-binding protein, into the spinal cord of mice inhibits and reverses the inflammatory response and cellular activities associated with the process of pain production. The pain relief effect lasts for about two months and does not affect the motor function of the mouse.
The researchers explained that "apolipoprotein AI-binding protein" has previously been used to treat atherosclerosis. Recent research has shown that it also inhibits "Toll-like receptor 4" on the cell surface, which can "search" for signals of infection or tissue damage like antennas, and is associated with pain.
Tony Jacques, co-author of the paper and professor of anesthesiology at the University of California, San Diego, said that opioids only suppress pain and the source of pain still exists. And their approach "suppresses the underlying mechanisms that cause pain, rather than masking the symptoms," and "actually changes the process of pain itself."
