Scientists at the Weizmann Institute in Israel have developed a new method for early diagnosis of prostate cancer. They have discovered and predicted cancer by mapping the zinc concentration in the prostate, opening up a new path for early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Studies have shown that the rich natural zinc in the prostate plays an important role in protecting prostate health. Once the prostate tissue is cancerous, the zinc concentration will be significantly reduced. Based on this feature, the researchers used X-rays to analyze the zinc concentration in 600 patient sections and compare them to the zinc concentration in their blood.
The results show that at the initial stage of the onset, the reduction of zinc concentration in prostate cancer tissue can be detected; the researchers also found for the first time that the degree of this zinc concentration is closely related to the invasiveness of cancerous tissue - the more invasive The lower the zinc concentration. The concentration of zinc in the surrounding benign tissue remained normal. This finding heralds the mapping of prostate zinc concentrations as a means of early diagnosis of cancerous tissue.
In the subsequent experiments, the researchers studied their feasibility. They analyzed the relationship between zinc concentration changes and prostate cancer by computer simulation imaging. It was found that this method can not only determine the degree of damage of malignant tumors, but also show whether the cancer will spread to areas other than the prostate.
Currently, scientists have launched a special research and development program to accelerate the development of this non-invasive cancer detection method. They believe that although the study is still clinically available for several years, once it is put into use, it will greatly improve the accuracy of early detection of cancer.
