This decision expands the coverage of telemedicine services and benefits millions of Medicare beneficiaries.
The decision of the CMS is extremely significant because it forms part of a new medical service model. Medicare telemedicine services can be fully covered, and geographical gaps and institutional barriers that have existed for a long time will be overcome. Since then, people living in remote rural areas can also enjoy telemedicine services. For the first time in history, telemedicine services covered 80% of Medicare beneficiaries. Whether they live in urban or rural areas, they can enjoy telemedicine as long as they make a request at a service origin (such as their own home).
The decision of the CMS enabled the next generation of responsible medical organizations to reimburse telemedicine services, with the same capabilities as Medicare Advantage.
ATA CEO Jonathan Linkous said: "In the past four years, ATA has been applying with the CMS to remove all restrictions imposed by the responsible medical organizations on the Medicare project.
