Rice from booting to heading needs to prevent heat damage

Wang Cailin said: This year rice has plenty of rain during the planting season and the temperature is higher after transplanting rice. Especially since July, most parts of our province have sunny weather, abundant sunshine, and high temperatures, which is conducive to the development of rice crops. Some paddy fields have large numbers of seedlings and large groups, laying a foundation for high yields. However, the temperature in the recent period has risen abnormally to above 38°C, and parts of southern Jiangsu have even reached 40°C. According to forecasts, affected by the subtropical high, most of our province will maintain high temperatures above 37°C for the next 1 week. Sustained high temperatures will increase the dry matter consumption of the rice population and accelerate the birth process. At present, hybrid mid-season rice that entered the booting stage and some early-planted early-season japonica rice will have persistent pollen fertility that will affect its pollen fertility. In particular, early-maturing indica rice and hybrid-cultivated rice, which have been heading and flowering, will continue to have abnormally high temperatures and will reduce their seed setting rate.
For rice entering the heading and flowering stage and booting stage, deep water should be poured, and the temperature should be adjusted with water to reduce the temperature of rice plants, especially the canopy. Conditions can be sprayed with water to cool down, but water should be avoided during the blooming period. In addition, the continuous high temperature will increase the dry matter consumption of the rice population, and nitrogen fertilizer should be added appropriately. At present, the promotion of flower fertilization in rice has been completed in most areas. By mid-August, it is the time for applying fertilizers to grow fertilizers. It is necessary to increase the amount of preserved fertilizers according to the conditions of rice seedlings, and generally increase the application of urea by about 5 kilograms per acre. For early-maturing Japonica rice and hybrid rice farms that have entered the heading and flowering stage, grain fertilizer can be properly supplemented and urea can be applied to 3 to 5 kg per mu.
